Frequently Asked Questions

What Causes Inflammation in the Body?

Inflammation occurs when the immune system reacts to stimulus - the stimulus can range from damage caused to body tissues toward more serious effects, such as bacteria growing at a certain part of the body. In such a case, the bacteria will send out inflammatory mediators, which include two particular hormones, known as histamine and bradykinin. Antibodies, fluids and other substances are also sent to the site of injury.

What is Chronic Inflammation?

Chronic inflammation is when the immune system may not necessarily be attacking bacteria or sending out substances to assist with the healing process of damaged tissue, but rather continuously attacking pathogenic substances that have accumulated in some parts of the body. There are also cases where the immune system attacks healthy cells in the body - this is what causes the development of an autoimmune disease.

How Can I Reduce Inflammation?

In addition to diet and exercise, individuals should also take better care of their sleeping routines and habits. One study found that after staying awake for 24 hours, inflammation starts to increase considerably in the human body. The study also found that being restricted to a normal eight-hour sleep per day can also contribute to inflammation.

What Are Common Causes of Obesity?

A study published at ScienceDirect explains that scientific studies have made a strong connection between low-grade inflammation and obesity. They continue to explain that this connection is relatively complicated. Obesity on its own greatly contributes to the development of inflammation in the human. On the other hand, several lifestyle factors can contribute to inflammatory triggers, which, in turn, impairs the ability of the adipose tissue to produce an adequate supply of adipocytokines.

How Can I Improve my Skin?

Ideally, a skin care routine should include a regimen that is performed both morning and night. This will ensure you get your skin ready for the day ahead and protect it effectively against environmental pollutants, as well as UV rays. At night, you need to treat your skin and apply products that assist with the rejuvenation process. Your skin care routine should also include antioxidants, which help to fight against free radical damage, a main contributor to the signs of aging.

What is Skin Laxity?

Skin laxity, a term that is used to describe a loss of elasticity in the skin, is one of the most common concerns amongst the aging. As the body grows older, the skin begins to produce a lower amount of certain proteins and fibers, including elastin and collagen. These form essential components of the skin, and when levels of elastin and collagen become low, the skin loses its elasticity.

What Are the Different Skin Types?

One of the most important factors to consider when buying products to be included in your morning and night skin care regimens is that you need to buy the right products. Consider what skin type of you have, and then buy products that are suitable for your skin type.

Some particular types of skin that you may have: Normal skin, Combination skin, Dry skin, Oily skin

What is Lipolaser?

Lipolaser technology is a strategy that has been proven effective and virtually free of side-effects. This particular technology has been used for the reduction of body fat for several years. Most recently, the technology has also been presented to individuals who suffer from more significant signs of skin laxity.

What are the Benefits of Lipolaser?

One particular benefit is the effect the technology has on skin elasticity. Patients often observe noticeable improvements in their skin elasticity; thus making Lipolaser therapy an effective method for improving the signs of skin laxity. Additionally, Lipolaser therapy is also a more cost-effective approach to treating skin laxity and improving skin firmness as compared to some of the more common options, such as botox injections and skin surgery.

Can Skincare Creams Help Improve Collagen Levels?

Unfortunately, the truth is, these creams are not as effective as you may think it is. Collagen is a molecule that is too large to penetrate through the skin - for this reason, collagen applied to the skin will remain on top of the skin. When you wash you face the next time, you’ll simply wash off the collagen that was applied. This means that those creams may help deliver collagen to the upper layer of your skin, but they are unable to deliver collagen to the deeper layers, where it truly matters.

How Can I Improve my Collagen Levels?

Collagen loss is known to naturally occur with age, but we often implement additional lifestyle factors, such as excessively exposing our skin to the sun and smoking cigarettes, which causes a faster deterioration of collagen production. With the use of red light therapy, collagen loss can be more effectively prevented, and collagen production can be boosted to assist with reducing the visibility of wrinkles and other skin-related problems that have developed due to the reduction in collagen levels.

What are the benefits of Detoxing

There are many benefits that you can obtain from following a proper detox plan in Spring:

●     Problems such as abdominal cramps, gas and constipation will also be relieved.

●     Improve lung function, helping to improve breathing and  reducing congestion.

What is the Lymphatic System?

The lymphatic system serves several vital functions in the human body, aiding in the expelling of toxins, as well as helping prevent the development of complications due to infections. With much of our daily diets including “unhealthy” foods, combined with an often sedentary lifestyle and high levels of stress and poor sleep - the lymphatic system can greatly suffer, which means it is unable to provide the body with the functionality needed to keep the body free of toxins, bacteria and other particular substances.

What Damages the Lymphatic System?

Numerous lifestyle habits can lead to a reduction in the efficiency of the lymphatic system. Diet has a considerable impact on immune function and the wellbeing of the lymphatic system. When a diet is filled with saturated fats, refined sugars and other harmful substances, the lymphatic system may be adversely affected. Environmental pollutants and toxins also build up in the body, as well as potentially harmful bacteria. A lack of exercise, stress, poor sleep and many other problems can amplify these problems.

Symptoms Of An Impaired Lymphatic System

Lymphedema is the most common symptom that may signal the presence of a lymphatic obstruction. This condition leads to swelling that develops within the legs and the arms. This occurs due to a fluid buildup within these limbs. Some patients may also experience similar symptoms in the toes and fingers. Additional symptoms that may accompany the swelling include a dull pain, as well as heaviness. Most patients also find that their range-of-motion is also adversely affected by symptoms associated with lymphedema.

Symptoms Of An Impaired Lymphatic System

Improvements in diet and physical activity are two primary ways to improve lymphatic function. Incorporating improved stress management techniques in your life can also be an effective way to reduce oxidative stress in the body and assist with reducing lymphatic stress.

There are other methods for supporting the lymphatic system as well:

●    Dry Brushing - Some vessels of the lymphatic system lie beneath the skin - through brushing, these vessels can be stimulated; thus improving the overall functionality of the lymphatic system. In turn, this helps to speed up detoxification within the body.

●    Light Therapy - Another effective method for supporting the lymphatic system is light therapy, a technology that assists with improving the flow within the vessels of the lymphatic system by emitting a light that assists with stroking in the same direction that lymph fluid flows.

●    Lipolaser Therapy - The technology works by shrinking fat cells found in the patient’s body. Adipose tissue causes strain upon the lymphatic system - with reductions in adipose tissues, improvements in lymphatic function can be expected.

Commonly Asked Questions by our Slim Sister Clients

What does Epigenetics have to do with Weight Loss?

According to recent studies, women's life spans are improving at a slower pace than men’s and are actually shorter in many areas then they were two decades ago. The escalation of obesity, diabetes, depression and dementia, the health of the western societal woman is going the wrong way. Knowing the female propensity to have strengths and weaknesses in different areas of the brain + health; we have created program(s)  that focuses on the way in which females think and feel so that our solutions are successful.

Why can’t I lose Weight?

Many of us get stuck in a body fat storage mode because of stress. Stress can be felt all around us, can be from many aspects of our lives; emotional, physical, environmental, and neurotoxic. Our body responds the same - it goes into protection storage mode.

Holding tight to fat and depleting from energy reserves that require too much maintenance to build and keep up - like your muscles. When clients come to see us we see a certain pattern in body fat and muscle percentages that are hallmark signs of prolonged stress, and guess what we can help.

This pattern is very difficult to break in the body, and you know it, because you have tried everything else before.

The 21st century female is stressed and burdened like never before, we are responsible for so much. We have stepped into encompassing all things - capable, strong, breadwinners, leaders, mothers, WE ARE EVERYTHING but what we aren’t doing is nurturing ourselves, we need to soften and encourage/respect the “Yin” part of us. That is what slim sister offers a different solution to your weight loss journey, one that understands you.

How will Shed + Release Benefit my Lymphatic System?

The shed + release program uses technology called lipolaser to increase lymph flow and encourages the cells to release stored contents.

Research suggests that obesity correlates with a dysfunctional lymphatic system.

Lymph fluid is the main transport of unhealthy material waste from the cell. Without proper lymph flow waste stays in the system causing more serious health effects.

How Does Laser Lipo Work?

Lipo Laser or Laser Lipo is a method of photobiomodulation in which fat cells are energized via the mitochondria; the cell calcium ion pumps are then opened which in turn creates the cell to release its contents.

Think of a juicy fat cell that has become ineffective and dysfunctional through aging and toxins; nothing good is getting in and nothing bad is being released. During each session we are creating this energizing process to the cells; removing toxins and free fatty triglycerides, and shrinking the fat cells.

A technician places the laser pads on areas of stubborn body fat, skin laxity or to improve lymphatic flow. The process only takes 20 minutes and is painless with no down time.

Who's Eligible for Laser Lipo?

At Slim Sister we have two streams of clients;  body contouring and weight loss

Body contouring clients must be within normal range for BMI and body fat to be considered for contouring.

We encourage Lipo Laser for our weight loss clients as it has major benefits with addressing issues such as inflammation and lymphatic flow.

The difference between the programs; are the amount of sessions and the laser pad placement; as well as the extra coaching that takes place with our weight loss clients.

What is the Laser Lipo Process Like?

The process is very relaxing and supportive to the nervous system - in fact; most clients have a little nap, which we encourage.

For new clients we complete consultation and body composition analysis and then you’re ready for your first session of Lipo Laser. The session lasts 25 - 30 mins for optimal relaxation and comfort of the client.

Some clients with very quick metabolisms report noticing changes quite quickly but the majority of clients notice results between 8 - 11 sessions with full results at 16 sessions. The recommended frequency, duration and treatment plan depends on the client.

What areas can be Treated with Laser Lipo?

All parts of the body that store fat can be treated.

The most common treatment areas include:

●      Abdomen

●      Waistline

●      Thighs

●      Arms

●      Under the chin

●      Bra Line

●      Areas of pain

●      Shoulders

How long do Laser Lipo Results Last?

Learning healthy lifestyle habits with a maintenance package is what we recommend at Slim Sister.

We are always aging, losing collagen, heading towards body fat storage so the results that are created are setting a new point of which to age from.

Luckily clients who have finished an in house package have the option to continue with maintenance at a preferred pricing for loyal clients who are interested in maintaining health and integrity of their skin for life.
